Came to this place who serves traditional Fuchow food. The meat ball is fantastic. It is a casual coffee shop, don't dress up!

A 10-15minute walk from bugis mrt, the place is not necessarily accessible but is definitely worth a trip down (the walk doesn't feel as long when there's lots to see along Haji lane and Arab street along the way!) Was recommended the double fish soup (fried fish and fish slice), $4.50. My dining partner got the double fish soup while I got the full fried fish soup with thick bee hoon with milk. The portion was rather generous for its price, but what really made the kill was the fried fish. Thoughtfully placed in a separate bowl, the fried fish remained crispy throughout the meal. Unlike the fried fish from your usual coffee shop or kopitiam which is coated in a thick layer of flour, the fried fish here was fresh and coated with a thin layer of bread crumbs-think fish and chips? Personally, I enjoyed it both dunked in the broth and dipped in the thai-style chilli sauce provided. Overall, the only things this lacked were the usual fried egg floss, which probably accounted for the less flavourful soup. That being said, it was still a refreshing choice-I'll definitely be back for more!

Wowza! My first meal in Singapore and it was fantastic (and cheap! Two huge mains and 2 drinks cost only 15 Singapore dollars!) And the food was amazing! I realized too late that the fishball soup is what we should have ordered, as per other yelp reviews but I gotta say the Tom Yum soup was pretty darn good with great spice levels and just the right mix of soup broth to noodles and fish/ shrimp/ mushrooms/ vegetables. We also ordered some other kind of soup - whose name I can't remember. It was x3 pieces of fried fish with yellow egg noodles, vegetables, mushrooms etc in a clear broth. I found this too mild for my taste - tasted good but didn't have a kick, but my mum happily slurped it down. The place does feel and look like a hole in the wall, but don't go here for the ambience, absolutely go here for the great local food!

My family comes here on some Sundays for our family lunch whenever we are craving for fishball noodles. One of the first things I like about this stall is that it is so unpretentious. Face it guys, good food need not be served in overly decorated restaurants charging over the top prices and slapping on GST and service charge. Being located in the heart of Bugis near the Malay heritage area gives it a rustic feel. My favorite dish here is the foochow fishball noodles, my siblings prefer the red wine soup with noodles and meat. Such simple fare are hard to find nowadays.

What to expect is the traditional taste of the Hock Chew people. Food taste amazing and it was a favorite lunch spot when my studio was round the corner from this place. The taste has big changed even though the Golden gate area is developing into a hipster zone. Hope that gentrification doesn't affect this establishment and their preservation of the Hock Chew cuisine. Only thing That is stopping me from giving this place a 5 star review is their lack of air conditioning which makes one SWEAT in the hot humid Singaporean afternoon.

Once you step into the stall, you will see that it is a bit rundown but it give you a traditional kind of feeling. This is one of my favourite Fried fish noodle soup in Singapore. Unlike those normal Fried fish noodle soup, the stall holder will separate fried fish in another bowl. I love the consideration. By separating it, it would not cause the fried fish to turn soggy when soak in the soup. At times, I would order additional plate of fried fish to satisfy my craving. Nicely breaded fried fish having the texture of those fish and chip found in restaurants. At the very same stall, you can also try their famous Fu Zhou Fish Ball Noodle. I don't really fancy Fu Zhou Fish Balls. I tend to prefer fish ball rather than fu zhou fish balls. But Their Fu Zhou Fish Balls are all handmade and are really tasty from those you found elsewhere. This is a rather traditional type of Fu Zhou Fish Balls.
